*Trump Slams ‘Politically Correct’ DOJ for ‘Watered Down’ Travel Ban

President Trump on Monday slammed his own administration’s travel ban as “watered down” and “politically correct.” He tweeted, “The Justice Dept. should have stayed with the original Travel Ban, not the watered down, politically correct version they submitted to S.C.” Then, “The Justice Dept. should ask for an expedited hearing of the watered down Travel Ban before the Supreme Court — & seek much tougher version!” The weekend attack in London—in which seven people were killed and 48 others wounded—seemed to be behind Trump’s renewed passion for the ban, which would halt travel from six predominantly Muslim countries. The initial version of the ban included seven countries; Iraq was later omitted from the proposal. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals was the latest to uphold a nationwide injunction against the ban last month, saying the executive order “drips with religious intolerance, animus, and discrimination.” Trump capped the tweetstorm by also finally settling the debate over what to call the executive order, after he and his team for months refused to call it a “travel ban.” He posted, “People, the lawyers and the courts can call it whatever they want, but I am calling it what we need and what it is, a TRAVEL BAN!”

*Former Facebook Near-Billionaire Palmer Luckey Creating Immigrant ‘Monitor’

Palmer Luckey, the founder of the Facebook-owned Oculus who The Daily Beast revealed funded pro-Trump memes in October, is now developing a technology to create a “virtual border wall” that will use “technology found in self-driving cars” to spot border-crossers, The New York Times reported. Luckey departed Oculus in March, seven months after The Daily Beast discovered his $10,000 donation to NimbleAmerica, an organization created alongside moderators of the alt-right subreddit r/the_donald. Luckey began working on his border wall project “soon after” he was widely condemned for his donation. The project is also being funded by Facebook board member Peter Thiel. According to sources who spoke to the Times, the company will use “sensors and cameras to monitor borders for illegal crossings” or other perimeter activities, like at “military bases and stadium events.” Luckey and right-wing agitator Charles C. Johnson had met with Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke in April, as first reported by Gizmodo.

*Tracy Morgan Refuses to Testify Under Oath in Walmart Insurance Dispute

Although known for his profanity-laced jokes, Tracy Morgan is passing up one opportunity for “swearing.” The “30 Rock” star is refusing to testify under oath in an insurance dispute against Walmart’s multimillion-dollar payout to the comedian over the 2014 truck accident that left him clinging to life and killed his comedian pal Jimmy Mack. “Deposing Tracy Morgan will lead to nothing. We are opposing it,” his attorney, Benedict Morellisaid. Walmart’s insurer, Ohio Casualty, is demanding Morgan, 48, sit for a seven-hour deposition to prove its claims that he exaggerated his injuries to get the payout, reported to be about $90 million. “The people I represented were all in comas for more than a week. They were devastatingly injured,” said Morelli, referring to Morgan and fellow comic Ardie Fuqua.
