*LBN INVESTIGATES

Muslims will double their share of the population in the United States by 2050 and surpass Christianity as the world’s dominant religion by the end of the century, according to a Pew Research Center report released last week. The Pew study comes the same week that saw two acts of mass murder perpetrated by Muslim extremists — a suicide bombing outside a concert in Manchester, England, and a gun attack on a bus filled with Coptic Christians in Egypt. Based on demographic trends, Pew projects that the Muslim population will grow by 70 percent worldwide between 2015 and 2060, compared with an overall population growth of 32 percent. That far exceeds the projected growth of the second- and third-fastest growing religions, Christianity and Hinduism, respectively.

*McCain: Vladimir Putin a Bigger Threat Than ISIS

Senator John McCain said on Monday that he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin is a better threat to global security than ISIS. McCain said: “I think he is the premier and most important threat.” He continued, explaining that while ISIS “can do terrible things and I worry a lot about what is happening with the Muslim faith …it’s the Russians who tried to destroy the fundamental of democracy and that is to change the outcome of an American election.” McCain, speaking in Australia, also said President Trump makes him “nervous.” The senator said he was concerned about reports that Jared Kushner was allegedly planning a secret communication channel between Trump’s team and Russia. “I don’t like it, I just don’t,” he said.

*Your Best Orgasm Will Happen at this Age

When it comes to sex, you might think youth is a bonus, and your 20s is often seen as the sexual peak. But that’s not the case for women — especially if we’re talking about orgasms. A new survey of women’s bedroom secrets has revealed that the big O gets better with age. In fact, over 36 is the prime time for the perfect climax. The study by Natural Cycles, the world’s first app to be certified as a contraception, surveyed 2,600 women using the standardized McCoy Female Sexuality Questionnaire methodology.
*‘Trainee Pilot’ Arrested in Connection to Manchester Attack

A trainee pilot is now the 16th person to be arrested in connection to the Manchester bombing. The 23-year-old has been held on suspicion of terror offenses in West Sussex. The attack at an Ariana Grande concert last week killed 22 people—many of them young girls—and wounded dozens more. A neighbor told reporters that the arrested man had come from Libya more than a year ago. “He said he was training to be a pilot at Shoreham Airfield and he had just completed doing that,” she said. “I am really, really shocked by this. I can’t believe he had been arrested.”
*Trump: North Korea Showing ‘Great Disrespect’ to China

President Trump on Monday tweeted in outrage that North Korea showed “great disrespect” to China by conducting another ballistic missile test over the weekend. Trump wrote, “North Korea has shown great disrespect for their neighbor, China, by shooting off yet another ballistic missile…but China is trying hard!” Late on Sunday, U.S. Pacific Command said it detected the launch near Wonsan Airfield. It landed in the Sea of Japan. Defense officials in the U.S. have said the missile is not a threat to North America.
*Tiger Woods Arrested for DUI in Florida:

Legendary golfer Tiger Woods was busted on a drunk-driving charge in Florida early Monday, according to a report. Woods, who lives on Jupiter Island, was arrested around 3 a.m. and sprung from the Palm Beach County Jail shortly before 11 a.m.

*Rahm Emanuel: Illegal Immigrants Are ‘Welcome Here’
Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said immigrants who come here illegally and their children were “part of the Chicago family.” Emanuel said, “The kids who go to our schools, the dreamers, all the kids, we have 140 languages spoken in our schools. Those kids and their families are frightened. And it’s incumbent as a city, whether you’re from Ireland or India, Poland or Pakistan, Mexico or Moldova, where my grandfather came from, those children are part of the Chicago family. And their parents are doing working incredibly hard. They sacrifice, they struggle so their kids could not only come to a place called America but specifically, Chicago. And I think Chicago will always represent the promise of America, If you believe that tomorrow can be better than today, you are welcome here.” He added, “It not just being a sanctuary city it’s being a welcoming city.”
*Prince William: 20 Years On, I Still I Miss My Mom

Prince William has told of his sadness that his late mother,Diana, Princess of Wales, who died 20 years ago this August, will never meet his family. In an interview with British GQ magazine to publicize the mental health charity Heads Together, he said, “I would love her to have met Catherine and to have seen the children grow up. It makes me sad that she won’t, that they will never know her.” William said that he is now, “in a better place about it than I have been for a long time, where I can talk about her more openly, talk about her more honestly, and I can remember her better, and publicly talk about her better…It has taken me almost twenty years to get to that stage.  I still find it difficult now because at the time it was so raw. And also it is not like most people’s grief, because everyone else knows about it, everyone knows the story, everyone knows her. It is a different situation for most people who lose someone they love, it can be hidden away or they can choose if they want to share their story.”

*‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Wins Holiday Box Office

Disney’s latest installment of Pirates of the Caribbean won the holiday box office over Memorial Day weekend, as Baywatch proved to be dismal competition. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales raked in $76.6 million domestically and $208 million internationally, putting Captain Jack Sparrow and crew on track to secure a $285 million global launch. Pirates 5, the final installment in the franchise, seesJohnny Depp reprise his role as Sparrow, with stars Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, Kevin R. McNally, Golshifteh Farahani, David Wenham, Stephen Graham, Orlando Bloom, and Geoffrey Rush also featured in the film. Baywatch, which got a head-start in theaters with a launch on Thursday, pulled in a mere $26.6 million over its five-day debut. The film was beaten even by holdover Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which brought in $26 million in its fourth weekend.

*LBN-INVESTIGATES: Every day, the heart creates enough energy to drive a truck 20 miles. In a lifetime, that is equivalent to driving to the moon and back.

*LBN-BUSINESS INSIDER:   ***It took only one attempt for Russian hackers to make their way into the computer of a Pentagon official. But the attack didn’t come through an email or a file buried within a seemingly innocuous document. A link, attached to a Twitter post put out by a robot account, promised a family-friendly vacation package for the summer. It was the kind of thing anyone might click on, according to the official hit by the attack, who was not authorized to speak publicly about it. That is exactly the problem, Pentagon officials and cybersecurity experts said. While corporations and government agencies around the world are training their staff to think twice before opening anything sent by email, hackers have already moved on to a new kind of attack, targeting social media accounts, where people are more likely to be trusting.

*LBN-INVESTIGATES: Veterans groups say a growing military-civilian disconnect contributes to a feeling that Memorial Day has been overshadowed. More than 12 percent of the US population served in the armed forces during World War II. That’s down to less than one-half of a percent today, guaranteeing more Americans aren’t personally acquainted with a soldier, sailor, airman or Marine. With an all-voluntary military, shared sacrifice is largely a thing of the past — even as US troops remain in Afghanistan and Iraq nearly 16 years after 9/11.

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Jeff Shesol: One evening this month, the Smithsonian American Art Museum hosted a birthday celebration. But the guest of honor was absent. President John F. Kennedy, had he lived, would have turned 100 on Monday, May 29. The courtyard was filled with friends of the Kennedy family, alumni of Robert F. Kennedy’s 1968 campaign for president and of Edward M. Kennedy’s Senate staff, Kennedy biographers and, not least, some actual Kennedys — includingCaroline Kennedy, the president’s daughter. The audience greeted her warmly but appeared, on the whole, subdued. Speakers referred, here and there, to President Trump, who now sits at the desk where Kennedy once worked. It was hard to escape the feeling that the Kennedy legacy — the America he envisioned and helped build – is in eclipse. It is hard to imagine a president less like Kennedy than Mr. Trump. But it’s more than that. Kennedy’s belief in what his speechwriter, Ted Sorensen, called “the politics of persuasion,” as opposed to “the politics of violent confrontation or chaos,” is under challenge even in his own party. This is a danger that Kennedy foresaw, and warned against.

*Statue of ‘Lady Justice’ Removed From Bangladesh Supreme Court After Islamist Objections

Bangladeshi authorities have dismantled a statue of a woman meant to personify Lady Justice outside the country’s Supreme Court amid objections from Islamic hard-liners. After the statue was the subject of protests by the Islamic organization Hefazat-e-Islam last month, workers quietly removed the statue on Friday. The group had argued that the statue encouraged idol worship, which is prohibited in Islam. Mrinal Haque, the Bangladeshi sculptor behind the statue, told The New York Times he was ordered by the Supreme Court to get rid of it only five months after erecting it. Haque called the decision “an alarming signal for our country” and warned that it would lead to a wider crackdown on art from Islamist groups. Mujibur Rahman Hamidi, the joint secretary of Hefazat’s branch in Dhaka, has already called for statues throughout the country to be removed. “No sculpture can be on the roadside or outside the temple,” he told The New York Times. “If anyone wants to build any statue outside a temple in the future, the Muslims of Bangladesh will prevent it,” he said. Since the group’s rise to prominence in 2013, Hefazat has also demanded a “ban on foreign culture, including free mixing of men and women,” the separation of boys and girls in schools and the death penalty for anyone guilty of blaspheming Islam or the prophet Muhammad.

*Uber CEO’s Mother Killed in Boating Accident

The mother of Uber’s top executive has been killed in a boating accident in California in what the company described as an “unspeakable tragedy” on Saturday. CEO Travis Kalanick’smother, Bonnie Kalanick, was in a boat with Kalanick’s father,Donald, when authorities say it hit a rock and sank on Friday afternoon. The two were found on the shore of Pine Flat Lake in Fresno County, and Kalanick’s mother was reportedly dead when rescuers arrived. It was not immediately clear if she drowned or died from injuries caused by the collision. Kalanick’s father was hospitalized with moderate injuries. After initially being listed in serious condition, he had reportedly stabilized by Saturday afternoon. While Kalanick has not yet issued a statement on the tragedy, Uber offered its condolences in a statement on Saturday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Travis and his family in this heartbreaking time,” the ride-hailing service said. Authorities in Fresno say an investigation into the incident is underway, with an autopsy planned for Sunday.
*Gregg Allman of Allman Brothers Band Dies at 69

·  Americans eat 13 billion hamburgers each year, which is enough to circle the earth more than 32 times.
·  Lower income people eat more junk food than more affluent people. Scientists suggest that extreme economic uncertainty makes it less likely that someone will prepare for a long-term, healthy diet.

·  A single fast-food hamburger can contain meat from hundreds, or even thousands, of different cattle.

·  Four out of five children recognize the Mcdonald’s logo by the time they are three years old, which is before some of them know their own names.

·  The father of pizza is considered to be Rafaele Espositofrom Italy. He wanted his pizza to look like the Italian flag, so he topped his pizza with green basil, white mozzarella, and red tomatoes.

· Eating too much junk food while pregnant can also lead to gestational diabetes

·  Mothers-to-be who eat junk food during pregnancy increase the likelihood that their children will eat unhealthy as well.

·  In Japan, eel and squid are popular pizza toppings.

·  Over 1 billion pizzas are delivered in the United States every year. More pizzas are delivered on Super Bowl Sunday than on any other day of the year.

·  Chick-fil-A sells more than 1.64 billion chicken nuggets every year. That would be more than 5 nuggets for each person in the U.S.

The Hall of Fame pitcher’s death comes after he suffered a stroke last October, and his family said he died late Friday of complications. Over his 17-year baseball career, Bunning played for the Detroit Tigers, the Phillies, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He made his mark on the game, going down in history as one of only 23 major league players to throw a perfect game. After leaving baseball behind, he served six consecutive terms in the U.S. House of Representatives starting in 1986 and served in the Senate from 1998 to 2010. *LBN-COMMENTARY by Colin Fleming: One of the great perks of being a Beatles buff is that the band left plenty of unalloyed masterpieces, and a couple of dark horses, that make for a lot of fun arguments you can have in your head, changing course when need be and reversing field like your last series of thoughts existed for the sole purpose of creating totally oppositional ones. That’s a pretty Beatle-y conceit, as if you’ve passed through that Sea of Holes in Yellow Submarine, with your previously held opinions shape-shifting in the process.  It’s not the case now, but as we mark the 50th anniversary of the June 2, 1967 release of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, it’s worth noting that from the time of that release until, say, the mid-1990s, this was the album you were told was, far and away, the best album that had ever been released. To question this was to go against a veritable rock and roll Commandment in which it was writ: The Band Leader Hereforth Known as Sgt. Pepper Presides Over the Greatest Musical Platter There Ever Shall Be.  As a kid, I spent an ungodly amount of time ranking the Beatles’ albums in my head. I never had Pepper first, but I always had a qualifier for my argument, which we shall come to. I started getting into the band hardcore in the early 1990s, so I was there to watch this shift away from Pepper and toward Revolver and Rubber Soul, the two albums that preceded it. A lot of that shift seemed to come from the UK, with magazines like the solid Q and the stolid MOJO really stumping for those earlier albums.  It took longer in America. If there was a poll of the best ever albums, it seemed a fait accompli that Pepper would top it. It was just a given. This was the rock record that went beyond rock records, whose import had as much—or more—to do with its timing, what it meant in the fabric of 1960s culture, what it suggested about possibilities in terms of audacious music-making. It was the “be free man” album more than any other, salt that was poured over a slippery hippie road for better traction.

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Maureen Dowd: “Please stop smiling,” I politely asked Barack Obama as I passed him in Boston’s airport. It wasn’t just any smile. It was that infectious, magical grin that helped him deflate the Clinton machine and win the White House as a novice senator, a smile full of charm and promise that we didn’t see all that often after 2008. No answer was forthcoming since I was only talking to the former president’s glossy image, cuddling with the glamorous Michelleon the cover of People. But there is something disorienting about seeing Obama look so genuinely blissful, cavorting around the world with celebrities and billionaires, while so many others freak out about his successor.

*DHS Chief: If You Knew What I Knew About Terror, You’d ‘Never Leave the House’:

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly on Friday said the terror threat is worse than most realize, saying some people would “never leave the house” if they knew the truth. “I was telling [Fox host] Steve [Doocy] on the way in here, if he knew what I knew about terrorism, he’d never leave the house in the morning,” Kelly said. He noted there were four major terror attacks in the last week — in England, Egypt, the Philippines and Indonesia — “by generally the same groups.” “It’s everywhere. It’s constant. It’s nonstop. The good news for us in America is we have amazing people protecting us every day. But it can happen here almost anytime.” Masked gunmen opened fire on a group of Coptic Christians driving to a monastery in southern Egypt on Friday, killing 26 and injuring 25 more.
*ISIS Claims Responsibility for Egypt Bus Attack

The number of those killed in an attack on a bus carrying Christians near Cairo on Friday has risen to 29, as the so-called Islamic State claimed responsibility on Saturday. At least 13 others remain hospitalized after the attack, in which gunmen stormed a bus heading to a Christian monastery. The ISIS-affiliated Amaq news agency said a unit of the terrorist group carried out the attack, putting the death toll at 32. The bloodshed prompted the Egyptian military to conduct airstrikes on bases in eastern Libya where it says ISIS militants train. Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who declared a three-month state of emergency after deadly attacks on Christian churches in April, has condemned the latest violence in a phone call to the pope of the Coptic church in Egypt, saying authorities will not rest until the perpetrators are caught. Friday’s violence was the fourth attack on Christians in the country since December.

*G7 Summit Ends Without Agreement on Climate Change
A summit of Group of Seven nations ended on Saturday without unanimous agreement on climate change, as U.S. President Trump said he’d need more time to decide whether to remain in the Paris climate deal. The decision reportedly left European diplomats frustrated, though the final statement from the meeting said world leaders were “understanding” about the U.S. need for further review. “The entire discussion about climate was very difficult, if not to say very dissatisfying,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel told reporters after the summit. “There are no indications whether the United States will stay in the Paris Agreement or not,” she said. Trump, who has been under scrutiny by environmental experts for calling climate change a hoax, took to Twitter after the summit to say he’d make a decision next week on the U.S. commitment to the 2015 Paris Agreement. The agreement obliges participating states to pledge to cut carbon emissions in a bid to combat global warming. While Trump failed to make a final decision on climate change, world leaders were reportedly relieved that he approved of a pledge to fight trade protectionism after previously expressing reluctance over the move.

*Zbigniew Brzezinski Dies at 89

Former national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski died on Friday at age 89, his daughter Mika said in an Instagram post. “I just knew [him] as the most inspiring, loving and devoted father any girl could ever have,” Brzezinski, the co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, wrote. The elder Brzezinski, born in Poland in 1928, served as national security adviser under President Jimmy Carter and previously served as counselor to President Lyndon B. Johnson. He is credited with helping to negotiate the Camp David Accords and opening up relations with China.

*CNN: Comey Acted on Russian Intel He Knew Was Fake

Former FBI Director James Comey knew that information relating to the probe of Hillary Clinton’s private email server was fake, and reportedly created by Russian intelligence, leading to his decision last summer to publicly announce the investigation over. The Washington Post had previously reported that Comey was likely duped into action by the false information, but CNN reported Friday that he was aware of its nature, according to “multiple officials with knowledge of the process.” He acted upon the fake intel, CNN noted, because “he feared that if it became public it would undermine the probe and the Justice Department itself.”

*Lee Boyd Malvo, Serving Life in ‘Beltway Sniper’ Case, Must Be Resentenced, Judge Says:

A federal judge in Virginia on Friday ruled that a man who terrorized this region 15 years ago as the so-called Beltway Sniper must be resentenced because the life sentences imposed when he was a teenager are unconstitutional. JudgeRaymond A. Jackson of the Federal District Court in Norfolk, Va., ordered two state courts to hold new sentencing hearings for Lee Boyd Malvo, who was 17 when he was sentenced in 2002. Mr. Malvo and an older man, John A. Muhammad, went on a horrific shooting spree in 2002 that left at least 10 people dead in Washington, and in its Maryland and Virginia suburbs. The random nature of the shootings, which spread out over three weeks, amplified the terror; schools kept children inside and people stayed indoors, for fear of becoming the next victims.

*LBN-SITE OF THE DAY:

“Real Time U.S. National Debt Clock.”

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Mimi Sheraton: Memorial Day, besides its most worthy reason for being celebrated, is dear to the American heart as the inaugurator of summer getaway weekend season. And with that inevitably comes the popular outdoor picnic, A.K.A., as far as I am concerned, “The Big Schlepp.” To me this solemn weekend of remembrance signals the time to hide, lest I be invited on what is surely the messiest and most agonizingly uncomfortable of all traditional feasts. It’s not that the idea of dining outside has no appeal to me, but the execution usually leaves me craving creature comforts.  Were modern American picnics at all like the Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe (Luncheon on the grass) as depicted in the 1862 painting by Édouard Manet, I might rush to join. No impinging crowds or air stifled by clouds of burning grease from grills, no random baseballs or horseshoes, no sticky children needing bathrooms, no fear of food poisoning via overly warm mayonnaise in the potato salad, neither beach sand nor woodland insects to brush off: just two couples in a sylvan hideaway sharing simple ready-to-eat fare that seems to consist only of fruit, bread, and maybe a few chunks of cheese.  Of course, I might balk if I were expected to play the role of the voluptuous, totally naked young woman or even of the other model, a diaphanously veiled nymph in the background where she appears to be looking for a four-leaf clover.

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Bret Stephens: An American walks into a bar. We’re in Madrid, in the late 1960s. The American turns to the man on the adjacent stool and asks, a little too loudly, “So, what do you think of General Franco?” “¡Silencio!” the Spaniard commands. “Follow me.” The American follows the man through the back door and into a car. They drive until they reach a remote mountain lake, find a rowboat, and paddle far from shore. It’s dark and still. Leaning into the American’s ear, the Spaniard whispers: “I like him.” It’s an old joke, but I’m reminded of it as the non-disaster that has been Donald Trump’s first foray overseas winds to a close. Those who feared the outcome of this presidency would be global thermonuclear war should take considerable comfort in the prospect that it might amount to something less.

*LBN-COMMENTARY by Aurora Snow: Daddy issues driving women into porn? Think again. While this antiquated stereotype is common among porn labels, it’s mainly fantasy material for the next generation of porn stars. Instant social media stardom might be the latest cattle prod herding girls into the XXX world. These days, a successful porn star has to be a social media maven, primping for the camera and constantly doing what it takes to earn followers. With that kind of online visibility, a choice has to be made: fully disclose, in your own terms, the XXX career to your parents (they’re going to find out anyway) or let them discover it.  Whereas some young women get into the adult industry to pay for college, Ela Darling had already graduated with a master’s degree before embarking on a career in porn. Yet that didn’t make the first conversation with her parents any easier.  “I was in makeup on my very first porn shoot when my parents called. It was a defining moment in my life: either I’m honest with my parents and the chips fall where they may or I lie to them now and continue lying for the next several years and they’d likely find out anyway,” says Darling, who at the time felt her parents would prefer an uncomfortable truth to a comforting lie. Hoping it wouldn’t change the way her parents viewed her, or upset them, Darling started the conversation with: “I know you’d rather I be honest with you than not, so….”

*LBN-OVERHEARD:   ***Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor have decided to go their separate ways. After 17 years of marriage, the couple announced today that they have split. “With tremendous love and respect for each other, and the 18 years we spent together as a couple, we have made the decision to separate,” the couple said in a joint statement to E! News. Our priority will continue to be raising our children as devoted parents and the closest of friends. We kindly ask that the media respect our privacy at this time.”
